Who Is Brandon Reed?

I’m a 33 year old who still dreams like an 11 year old.

And although my 11 year old self’s aspiration of being a Major League shortstop never did come true, my journey up to this point has allowed me the opportunity to develop in some really cool and unique roles.

I’m currently living in the most magical place on earth, Orlando, FL with my wife Katie, the kindest, wisest, most genuinely gorgeous woman I’ve ever known. My intense curiosity for areas that challenge me has found me wearing many different hats over the years. A few of them being that of a Product Manager, Web Developer, Jelly Belly Enthusiast, Real Estate Investor, Entrepreneur, Photographer and self-proclaimed speed walking champion.

I’m obsessed with User Experience, and as any kindred-product-spirit will know…it’s both a blessing and a curse. I look for improvements in every interaction, behavior, and intent. Building products that do all of those things the right way, for the right reasons, is one of my life’s most core passions.

My living room wall may or may not be covered in Michael Jackson memorabilia (it is), and I have a very real, albeit irrational fear of whales. My parents never told me about Santa Claus, and I’m absolutely awful at harmonizing a melody…straight up can’t do it.

I think my story sums up pretty well in the 3 categories below. Click on ’em to read more.

People

Of all the facets of my life, by far the most important are the relationships I’ve forged with those that have been put in my path.

I’ve always been a “people person”, and from early on I was making friends with strangers in line at the grocery store.

The same compulsion that triggered those innocent interactions at Wal-mart has developed into a genuine passion for people and for making a difference in the lives of those around me.

It’s my firm belief that when people are encouraged to share, equipped to act, and willing to learn…they can leave a very unique mark on the world around them.

I do everything I can to insert myself into situations and experiences that breed meaningful relationships. In this way, by investing in those relationships and being intentional to experience life alongside others instead of just next to them, I’m continually encouraged by learning what people are capable of when given the tools that unlock what makes them feel alive.

Technology

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been an extremely curious guy . I was always digging my dad’s old gadgets out of junk drawers and disassembling them in order to create something new that served a different function entirely.

My fascination with technology has driven many of my life’s important decisions, and that passion has only grown stronger as I learn more and more about the role technology is playing in our world’s future. The good and the bad of that.

Technology opens doors to anyone who has the courage to open them. Doors of discovery, of innovation, of creation, and of action.

Look around you. There is a movement happening. ANYone can create. ANYone can influence. ANYone can impact.

Each day I’m discovering a unique intersection where my background, my passions, and this movement collide.

Yellow Legal Pads

Specifically, the 5x8in yellow legal pads. Let me try to convince you that this is relevant.

As I mentioned above, I’m a curious guy by nature. There are many blessings and several curses that follow curious people.

Something about curiosity that can be extremely powerful when acknowledged, utilized, and inserted into an action-oriented lifestyle is its tendency to see the world around it as flexible instead of concrete.

When we look at the opportunities and challenges around us as inviting rather than inhibitive, the world opens up in an extremely unique way.

There are also difficulties that come with pioneering new ideas and points-of-view. It often overwhelms and limits the impact of the people trying to make those dreams into realities.

My struggle has never been to find a goal or vision to chase. There’s no shortage of those bouncing around in my brain. Instead, what I’ve had to learn to do is decide which one is the most effective if acted on now, and which ones I should stick back into the “vault”.

In their own way, my silly yellow legal pads help me keep all the thoughts in my head out in front of me and organized in a way that helps me take action on them more effectively.

I seriously don’t go anywhere without them. My poor wife. She thought marriage was going to mean men’s socks and underwear left all over the house. Instead she got little sheets of yellow paper.

Everyone needs to find their “legal pad”. Everyone needs to understand their strengths, their weaknesses, their tendencies, and their end-goals so that they can discover the tools that help them leave the greatest amount of impact on the areas that they influence.

So…here’ s to doing instead of dreaming. And here’s to each of our “little pieces of yellow paper” that help get us there!
